The main access road to M.R. Štefánik’s cottage is along the green hiking path from Trangoška. This route is also used by our porters to supply the cottage.

A very nice round trip, even for less skilled tourists, is the ascent on the green trail from Trangoška with descent from M.R. Štefánik’s cottage following the blue trial to Kosodrevina and from there to Srdiečko taking the main road back to Trangoška.

Another possibility is the ascent on less used trails from Mýto pod Ďumbierom along the yellow Mlynná valley or from Liptovský Ján along the blue Jánska valley. These two trails are suitable for skilled hikers, they are less maintained. Most of the time, you won’t meet anyone, unless you happen to come across some wild life.

Our cottage is located on the SNP route, which is marked in red. The section from Čertovica to the cottage offers beautiful views, but in the summer you have to be careful with the weather, especially summer storms. In winter be aware of fog and strong winds.

Further on, the red route continues through Krupovo sedlo to Chopok with the possibility to turn to the highest peak of the Low Tatras, Ďumbier. This detour will extend your route by about an hour.

In winter, winter equipment is needed (snowshoes or skies, crampons and poles).

Attention to the seasonal closure of the trail in the section Chata M.R. Štefánik — Ďumbier (following the winter pole markings) — in the period without a continuous snow cover with a thickness of at least 15 cm.
